For 25 years, Need Him ministry has been on the front lines of culture meeting people in their struggles and offering a safe place to talk about Jesus. Offering this type of anonymous outlet encourages people to be honest and transparent. It also provides believers with a safe and low risk way to volunteer and easily share the Gospel despite all the fears the enemy throws at us.
We started with phone calls and expanded to include online chat, text messaging and social media messaging. Meeting people where they are, and through the technology they prefer, has proven to be an effective method for reaching people and getting volunteers who can participate without leaving home.
This approach has also consistently provided an early indication of the issues and struggles that are taking root within culture. I remember when our conversations about homosexuality started rapidly growing long before much was being written about it in media or gay marriage/gay rights were widely discussed.
As a ministry, we receive about 30,000 live conversations each month. These are all in English but over 50% come from outside the United States with people from over 200 different countries engaging us last year. Our hope for this blog is to simply share what we see and learn through this online evangelism.
We will share from two distinct perspectives. The first viewpoint is through the eyes of the ministry. We do not come at this as licensed counselors or psychologists. Rather, these blog posts will be offered as believers sharing observations we gain through conversations with a hurting and broken world. Think of us as cultural commentators with a biblical worldview. This allows us to share the hard questions, growing issues and trends we encounter as followers of Christ engaging those with a wide variety of backgrounds.
The second point of view is through the eyes of the volunteer evangelist. We have thousands of volunteers from all over the world giving their time to meet seekers and share Jesus. Most come without any special training but come with a heart to share the Good News. They learn to meet people struggling through a myriad of different issues. They learn to listen with grace but also turn the conversation into how trusting Jesus Christ can change everything.
We pray that these observations and lessons learned will equip and encourage you to meet those struggling without the shock and surprise that has historically crippled so many conversations before they ever started. If we can help one believer meet one lost soul with love and grace, then we have succeeded in sharing our experiences in order to help others get involved in the Great Commission.
We welcome your questions and comments. You can learn more about volunteering and find our Volunteer Application at www.needhim.org. May God embolden your spirit and bless your conversations such that you get to experience the joy of seeing a life changed for eternity.
